Dr. Frauwirth is Board Certified in both Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Pain Medicine. He specializes in interventional pain management and electrodiagnostic medicine (EMG). With extensive experience in Regenerative Medicine, including a special interest in the exploration of Stem cell* and PRP* injection treatments, he offers patients the most technologically advanced noninvasive treatment options to promote the healing of orthopedic injuries, restore function, and relieve pain.
Dr. Frauwirth completed an Interventional Pain Management Fellowship at Integrated Pain Management/Mount Diablo Medical Center, one of the largest single specialty pain medicine practices in California. He completed his Internship at the acclaimed Cornell University/Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital program and received his residency training in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the highly respected NUMC/Stony Brook University College of Medicine.
Dr. Frauwirth has a special interest and extensive experience in Sports Medicine. He has served as a lead ringside physician for the UFC, Bellator, Strikeforce, K1-Dynamite, HBO and Showtime boxing and has worked as a professional MMA judge and MMA referee. He was appointed founding Commissioner of the Tennessee Athletic Commission by Governor Phil Bredesen. He has authored articles in Pain Medicine and Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and has published papers on lumbar interlaminar epidural injections and a novel technique transforaminal blood patch technique. After practicing in Tennessee for 10 years, Dr. Frauwirth returned to Long Island to join LISS. He enjoys Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and spending time with his wife and 5 children.
*PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) and Stem Cell injections are currently considered experimental treatments though laboratory studies have shown that the increased concentration of growth factors, particularly in PRP, can potentially speed up the healing process.
