Long Island is considered a vacation destination for so many, that some of us tend to forget how lucky we are to call it home. With school still out, Your Local Kids has 10 Exciting Staycation Ideas close to home that make for a fun day trip or weekend adventure.

  1. Take a Trip to NYC

There is always something to do in the big city, and it’s only a train ride away! Visit the tourist spots, or catch a Broadway show with the whole family. You can set up a tour aboard a double-decker bus, or take a stroll through Central Park. Explore the many museums of Manhattan, or take a sight seeing speedboat adventure aboard the Shark or the Beast.

  1. Go Camping

With all of the beautiful parks and beaches across Long Island, the toughest part of camping is deciding where to stay! Whether you choose Suffolk or Nassau Counties, or the North or South Shore, there’s a camping spot that offers the amenities that are sure to suit your family’s needs.

  1. Check out an Amusement Park

Who says you have to travel far to enjoy the thrill of rides and adventure? Adventureland in Farmingdale and Boomers in Medford are just two of the many amusement parks that are open this summer for your children to enjoy. Always call ahead for hours and potential discounts, and keep an eye out for coupons throughout the season!

  1. Make it a Beach Day

The best time to live on Long Island is in the summer time, so make the most of it! Pack a cooler complete with water and healthy snacks, and bring some sand toys. Be sure to lather on the sunscreen and bring an umbrella when possible.

  1. Visit Fire Island

Just a Ferry ride away, Fire Island is a day trip that every Long Island family needs to experience. Check out some of the special programs for children, explore the lighthouse, or spend time at the beach. Be sure to experience the nature trails of the Sunken Forest Preserve, and see if you can spot some wildlife along the elevated boardwalk.

  1. Take a Boat Ride

If you’re looking for a paddleboat or rowboat, many local town parks offer boat rentals on-site. For larger excursions, look into lunch, dinner or sightseeing cruises. Many of these cruises are family friendly, and feature music and activities. Being out on a boat provides a new perspective on how beautiful Long Island is, and taking a “cruise to nowhere” is something every member of the family can participate in.

  1. Spend Some Time on the Farm

Visiting a farm is a great way to spend a staycation, and there’s always plenty to see and do. Take a drive out East to experience picking fresh fruit and vegetables, or visit a local petting zoo and get up close and personal with new animal friends.

  1. Get Wet at Splish Splash

Long Island’s own waterpark, Splish Splash, is located on the east end of Long Island and features over 96 acres of family friendly water-based attractions. Discounts are available on their website, and you can save even more by purchasing them in advance!

  1. Go to a Ball Game

Pick a day that works for everyone in your family, and get tickets to a local baseball game! Some libraries offer tickets for discounted admission, and at the Long Island Ducks Stadium, there’s special events and activities all season long.

  1. Visit the Zoo

Visit the Central Park Zoo or the Bronx Zoo this summer for featured special events, animal feedings, and shows of all types. Many libraries offer group trips or discounted tickets, and many times the zoo offers a free or reduced admission day as well – so be sure to ask!

Practice Policy Update Regarding COVID-19

Dear Patients:

Our patients, employees and family are our top priority at Long Island Spine Specialists, P.C.

We ask you to not visit any of our locations if you have symptoms such as fever, sneezing, coughing and possible shortness of breath.

Please cancel your appointment and re-schedule once you are feeling better and are no longer suffering with symptoms.

Only non-symptomatic patients will be seen. No exceptions.

Accompanying family members – including children – are asked to remain in the waiting area and will not be allowed to enter the exam rooms.

During this time of high concern regarding the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus) we are taking extra precautions to maintain the highest possible standards of safety and cleanliness. Please be advised that we are carefully following recommendations from both the CDC and WHO and are here to help guide you through this time if needed.

Some steps we are taking to keeping safe:

  1. We know how important cleanliness is and always maintain the highest standards of cleanliness. To further offer you peace of mind, we have increased the frequency of the cleaning of our office.
  2. Rest assured that hand washing is strictly followed. Hand sanitizer is available to all staff and patients.
  3. Additionally, if you have recently traveled to a country with high rates of the coronavirus or have been on a cruise, please reschedule your visit for at least 14 days from your return date. We will gladly accommodate your needs to reschedule. At that time, a telehealth interface can be arranged if necessary.

Find up-to-date and accurate information on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website and feel free to reach out with questions.
